Accessibility

Neighborhood

Plantagenet Cottage sits in a peaceful rural setting overlooking the Eastwell Manor estate, surrounded by mature gardens, countryside and quiet lanes. The area is ideal for walking, country pubs and exploring the best of Kent, with Canterbury, Folkestone, the coast, local farm shops and vineyards all within easy reach. The ruins of St Mary’s Church at Eastwell, with the tomb of Richard Plantagenet, are nearby and make for a lovely local walk.

Guest Access

Guests have exclusive use of the entire detached cottage and its private garden throughout their stay. Outside, this includes parking for two cars on the gravel drive, the mature cottage garden, outdoor seating areas, BBQ, summer house, garden games, swing, trampoline, rustic outdoor shower and the heated outdoor swimming pool when in season. The hot tub is available separately as an optional paid extra when booked in advance. The property is set back from the road and feels very private, with the main garden and pool area away from neighbouring properties.

Good to know

Plantagenet Cottage is a spacious, characterful country cottage set in beautiful private gardens overlooking the Eastwell Manor estate. The site has historic links to the Plantagenet story and local tradition connects it with Richard Plantagenet, reputed to have been an illegitimate son of King Richard III. The cottage as it stands today has clearly evolved over time, but the history remains part of its character and setting. Richard Plantagenet’s tomb can still be found among the ruins of nearby St Mary’s Church at Eastwell. Inside, the cottage has three comfortable double bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen and a large open-plan living and dining area with vaulted ceilings, arched windows overlooking the garden and manor grounds, and an inglenook fireplace with wood-burning stove. Outside, guests have exclusive use of the cottage and private garden, with a heated outdoor swimming pool in season, optional hot tub, rustic outdoor shower, BBQ and dining areas, summer house, garden games, badminton, trampoline and plenty of space to relax.

Other Details to Note

The heated outdoor pool is seasonal, usually open from April to October, with water temperature affected by the weather. The hot tub is an optional paid extra and is freshly prepared on request, so please arrange this in advance. The cottage sleeps up to 7, although it is generally most comfortable for 6. Two bedrooms can each be arranged as either a Super King or two single beds, and an additional pull-out bed is available on request. Well-behaved pets are welcome by prior agreement for a small additional charge. The cottage is set back from the road and feels wonderfully private. The garden is fenced and generally secure for dogs, although—as with any garden—we cannot guarantee it is completely escape-proof.
